Order of Essalieyan Books

Canadian fantasy author Michelle West has crafted an intricate fictional realm through her Essalieyan universe, which encompasses multiple interconnected series including The Sacred Hunt, The Sun Sword, The House War, and various short stories. This expansive world takes its name from the Empire of Essalieyan, governed by the Twin Kings Reymalyn and Cormalyn, and features the contrasting southern realm known as the Dominion of Annagar.

West launched this complex fantasy world in the mid-1990s with The Sacred Hunt duology—Hunter's Oath (1995) followed by Hunter's Death (1996). She then expanded the universe with The Sun Sword series, set sixteen years beyond The Sacred Hunt's conclusion. The House War series adds another layer to the chronology, with its opening three volumes occurring prior to The Sun Sword timeline, while subsequent books pick up immediately after those events. This series remains active with new releases continuing the saga. The publication sequence of West's Essalieyan books also follows the chronological order of events within the universe.
