Order of Draka Books

The Draka series presents a chilling dystopian alternate history created by Canadian-American author S.M. Stirling. This collection of novels and one anthology explores a dark timeline where an African empire of slaveholders emerges from British loyalists who fled to South Africa after the American Revolution. These founders were later joined by French Royalists, Icelanders, veterans of the Napoleonic wars, and American Civil War Confederates.

The resulting civilization, known as "the Draka," constructs a society built upon rigid race and class hierarchies, though it notably embraces gender equality. The series also features more liberal perspectives on nudity and sexuality compared to conventional societies.

Stirling launched this provocative series in 1988 with "Marching Through Georgia" and concluded it in 1996 with "Drakon." The series is alternatively known as "The Dominion," which also serves as the title for an omnibus edition containing the first three novels. In 2000, the series expanded with an anthology titled "Drakas!" The books are published in chronological order, making them accessible for readers who prefer to follow the timeline sequentially.
