Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen created the Department Q crime thriller series, which centers on Carl Morck, an exceptional homicide detective from Copenhagen who finds himself reassigned to the cold case division.

The series launched in Denmark with Kvinden i buret in 2007, later making its English-language debut in 2011 under two different titles: Mercy in the UK and The Keeper of Lost Causes in the USA.
