Order of Deathlands Books

James Axler's Deathlands series delivers gripping action-adventure science fiction set in a devastated post-apocalyptic America. In this harsh new world, only a handful of people survived the catastrophe, with countless survivors bearing the scars of horrific mutations. The story follows Ryan Cawdor and his band of survivors as they struggle to flee the desolate wasteland that was once their homeland. Their journey brings them face-to-face with nightmarish mutated creatures and dangerous individuals pursuing their own dark purposes. The series continues with the related Outlanders books.

Launching in 1986 with Pilgrimage to Hell, the Deathlands saga has an interesting origin story. Jack Adrian initially began writing the debut novel but became ill partway through, leading Laurence James to complete the work and adopt the James Axler pseudonym. Multiple authors have since written under this house name to continue the series. The Deathlands books remain active today, with four new installments released annually.
