Order of Cody’s Law Books
The Cody's Law western series features the collaborative work of James Reasoner and Bill Crider, writing together under the pseudonym Matthew S. Hart. Published through Book Creations, Inc. (BCI) - a company known for producing numerous western and historical fiction series - this collection of novels follows the adventures of Texas Ranger Sam Cody.
Launching in 1991 with Gunmetal Justice, the series was initially conceived as a 14-book saga but concluded prematurely when Bantam discontinued publication after twelve installments, ending with Comanche Code in 1995. The books maintain their publication sequence as the chronological reading order.
While the series delivers classic western elements including a heroic protagonist, dastardly outlaws, horseback pursuits, and gunfights, it gained notoriety for one particularly unconventional entry. The Prisoners earned the distinction of being what some consider "the only vampire/lesbian/cannibal/incest western" ever published. However, according to author Reasoner, despite this unusual reputation, the novel remains fundamentally "a decent traditional western with a stalwart hero [Texas Ranger Sam Cody], a villainous outlaw, and plenty of ridin' and shootin'."
