Order of Canterbury Tales Books

British author Paul Doherty (writing as P.C. Doherty) crafts the Canterbury Tales (of Mystery and Murder) series, reimagining the classic pilgrimage journey from Geoffrey Chaucer's literary masterpiece. Set during medieval times, these historical mystery novels follow the same group of pilgrims traveling from London to Canterbury, but Doherty weaves supernatural elements and murder mysteries into their tales.

The series launched in 1993 with An Ancient Evil, establishing Doherty's unique blend of historical authenticity and mysterious intrigue. Following a decade-long break, the author returned to this beloved series in 2012 with The Midnight Man, continuing the ongoing adventures of Chaucer's memorable characters in their new roles as amateur detectives encountering dark secrets along their sacred journey.

The books follow both publication and chronological order, allowing readers to experience the pilgrims' mysterious encounters as they unfold during their trek to Canterbury's holy shrine.
