Order of Camulod Chronicles Books

Scottish author Jack Whyte crafted this sweeping historical fiction series, originally published under the title A Dream of Eagles in markets outside the United States, with some readers also referring to it as the Arthurian Saga. These novels present a fresh interpretation of Arthurian mythology, exploring how Camulod (an alternative name for Camelot) came to be, tracing King Arthur's ancestral roots, and examining the complex political landscape of the era. The narrative spans from the Roman withdrawal from Britain through approximately 150 years of upheaval, culminating with the arrival and establishment of the Germanic Angles, Saxons, and Jutes.

Whyte launched the series in 1992 with The Skystone, initially planning to wrap up the saga with Metamorphosis: The Sorcerer, Book 2. He then added Uther, a standalone work that occurs during the same timeframe as The Eagles' Brood. Responding to fan enthusiasm, Whyte returned to the series in 2004 with The Lance Thrower (also published as Clothar the Frank), ultimately bringing the chronicles to a close with The Eagle, providing a more satisfying conclusion to the epic tale. Several titles have undergone republication with new names: The Skystone became War of Celts, The Singing Sword was retitled The Round Table, The Eagles' Brood transformed into Merlyn, Uther became Pendragon, The Saxon Shore was renamed Excalibur, The Fort at River's Bend became The Boy King, Metamorphosis was republished as The Sorcerer, The Lance Thrower appeared as Clothar the Frank in Canada before becoming Lancelot, and The Eagle was rereleased as The Last Stand.
