Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther stands at the heart of a compelling series of historical mystery and thriller novels. A World War I veteran who served on the Turkish Front, Bernie transitioned from police work to operating as a private investigator in pre-World War II Berlin. Philip Kerr launched the Bernie Gunther series in 1989 with March Violets, followed by A German Requiem in 1991, after which the series went dormant for fifteen years.
