Fred Saberhagen's Ardneh sequence weaves together three interconnected science fiction and fantasy series that span nearly four decades of publishing. This expansive literary universe centers around Ardneh, a sentient supercomputer that originated as a nuclear defense system and ultimately transformed the very fabric of the planet itself.

The saga encompasses Saberhagen's Empire of the East series, the Books of Swords series, and the Books of Lost Swords series. The Empire of the East launched the sequence in 1968 with The Broken Lands, eventually concluding with Ardneh's Sword in 2006—notably featuring a 33-year publishing gap between the third and fourth installments. The Books of Swords trilogy followed, running from The First Book of Swords in 1983 through The Third Book of Swords in 1984.
