Order of Albert Campion Books

Albert Campion stands as the protagonist of Margery Allingham's beloved crime fiction series. Initially conceived as a satirical take on Dorothy L. Sayers' famous Lord Peter Wimsey, Campion soon evolved into a distinctive character in his own right. This British gentleman detective presents a deceptively mild exterior—thin, fair-haired, bespectacled, and seemingly unremarkable in his pleasant, unassuming manner. Yet beneath this bland façade lies a figure of genuine authority and decisive action.

Campion made his literary debut in 1929's The Crime at Black Dudley (published in America as The Black Dudley Murder), launching what would become a celebrated 21-novel series. The final installment, Mr. Campion's Quarry, appeared in 1971, bringing the original series to a close through the collaboration of Allingham and her husband Youngman Carter.
