C.S. Harris serves as the pseudonym for accomplished author Candice Proctor, whose diverse literary portfolio spans historical mysteries (written as C.S. Harris), thrillers (published under C.S. Graham), and historical romances (released under her given name). Harris is best recognized for her popular Sebastian St. Cyr series.

Proctor brings impressive academic credentials to her writing, having earned her undergraduate degree in Classics before completing both master's and doctoral degrees in history. Her professional background includes teaching positions at two universities, archaeological fieldwork at multiple sites, and partnership in an international business consulting firm. The daughter of an Air Force officer who also served as a university professor, Proctor has experienced life across the globe, having resided throughout Europe, Jordan, and Australia. She now makes her home in New Orleans alongside her husband and occasional collaborator Steve Harris, their two daughters, and several feline companions.

Proctor's publishing journey began with scholarly work—her 1990 non-fiction title Women, Equality, and the French Revolution marked her first publication. She transitioned to fiction in 1997 with the historical romance Night in Eden. The C.S. Harris identity emerged in 2005 with the launch of What Angels Fear, the inaugural historical mystery that would establish her reputation in the genre.
