Order of Clifford Irving Books

Clifford Irving stands as an American novelist whose compelling works include Daddy's Girl, Final Argument, Trial, and Tom Mix and Pancho Villa. His remarkable six-decade writing journey, which began with his first publication in the 1950s, has been marked by both literary achievement and notorious controversy. The New York native attended Cornell University with aspirations of becoming an artist, but ultimately found his true calling in the written word after discovering his artistic talents lay elsewhere.

Irving's most infamous chapter came when he authored a fraudulent "Autobiography of Howard Hughes," a deception that landed him in federal prison and later inspired a Hollywood film starring Richard Gere. Despite this dramatic detour, Irving's legitimate literary contributions have earned him recognition among readers of legal thrillers and true crime.

In Trial, Irving crafts the story of Warren Blackburn, a criminal defense attorney fighting to rebuild his career after a year-long license suspension for misleading a judge about a client's history. With cases scarce following his reinstatement, Blackburn takes on two significant matters: defending an illegal immigrant charged with murder, and serving as second chair for a wealthy doctor's girlfriend accused of killing him in self-defense. When the lead attorney dies unexpectedly, Blackburn finds himself thrust into the spotlight, facing the ethical dilemma of connected cases bound by attorney-client privilege.

Daddy's Girl showcases Irving's true crime expertise through the shocking case of prominent Houston attorney James Campbell and his wife Virginia, discovered shot dead in their home. While suspicion falls on their daughter Virginia and her boyfriend David, their seemingly unshakeable alibis stump investigators—until the couple's breakup leads to David's confession to a new girlfriend, igniting a media firestorm.
