Cliff McNish is a British writer who specializes in fantasy fiction for young adults and children. His childhood was spent in Sunderland, England, where he would explore the local woodlands and return home covered in scratches from his adventures. His passion for literature was ignited when his English teacher introduced him to C.S. Lewis's The Magician's Nephew from the Chronicles of Narnia series.

McNish's journey to becoming a published author began with crafting short stories for his daughter. What started as simple tales gradually evolved and expanded, eventually developing into his first novel, The Doomspell. He launched his writing career in 2000 with the publication of this debut work.
