Before turning to fiction writing, he spent fourteen years as a film critic for a prominent Northeast newspaper, where he penned more than 4,000 movie reviews. His expertise in cinema led to regular appearances on NBC affiliate stations for eight years and national cable television for two years. In 2010, the MPA recognized his critical work by naming him Best Critic. That same year marked his debut as a novelist with the publication of Fifth Avenue.
