Before pursuing his writing career, Cartwright worked as a paramedic after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Paramedics from Charles Sturt University. His paramedic duties took him across Australia, from bustling metropolitan areas to the remote outback regions.

Cartwright's journey into writing began unexpectedly when sleepless nights with his first baby led him to explore storytelling. The arrival of his second child prompted him to reduce his paramedic work to part-time, creating the opportunity to dedicate himself to his author aspirations and build the successful writing career he had dreamed of.
