Order of Christopher Anvil Books
Christopher Anvil was the pseudonym used by Harry Christopher Crosby (1925-2009), an American science fiction writer renowned for his compelling short fiction. Anvil became a regular contributor to Astounding Magazine, where his work resonated strongly with editor John W. Campbell's editorial preferences. His stories typically featured a signature theme: technologically superior alien adversaries ultimately overcome by human cleverness and resourcefulness.
Writing under his real name, Crosby made his publishing debut in December 1952 with "Pandora's Planet" in Imagination magazine—a story he would later develop into a full-length novel. The Christopher Anvil byline first appeared in 1956 when he began his association with Astounding Magazine. His debut novel, The Day the Machines Stopped, was published in 1964.
Readers should note that Prescription for Chaos was also released under the alternate title Rx for Chaos.
