Order of Bruce Alexander Books
Bruce Alexander served as the pen name for author Bruce Alexander Cook, who created the beloved Sir John Fielding mystery series. Cook completed eleven books in this acclaimed series before his death in 2003.
While Cook gained recognition primarily through his Fielding mysteries, his writing career encompassed much more. He built his foundation as a journalist, contributing hundreds of articles to newspapers and magazines throughout his professional life. A California native with a degree in English literature, Cook served in the U.S. Army before launching his journalism career. His literary debut came in 1979 with the publication of Sex Life, and he also penned the Chico Cervantes series under his real name.
The Sir John Fielding Mystery series launches with Blind Justice, introducing readers to the remarkable eighteenth-century magistrate who, despite his blindness, co-founded London's first police force. The opening mystery revolves around a lord's apparent suicide that unravels into a complex web of deception, greed, and murder. The story also establishes the partnership between Fielding and thirteen-year-old Jeremy, who becomes instrumental in tackling London's most heinous crimes.
Watery Grave stands out as another compelling entry in the series. When Sir John's son returns from sea with tales of stormy weather and a captain's mysterious death overboard, Fielding must determine whether the incident was accidental or deliberate murder. The investigation proves far more complex than initially anticipated, demanding all of Fielding's considerable investigative skills to reach the truth.
