Brenda Buchanan crafts compelling mystery novels, particularly her popular Joe Gale series. Her passion for storytelling began in her Central Massachusetts mill town childhood, where she devoured newspapers and developed a keen eye for uncovering the truth. At just sixteen, she demonstrated her fearless approach to journalism by co-authoring an exposé on unequal funding between boys' and girls' athletics at her high school—a piece that stirred considerable controversy and taught her valuable lessons about the power of the written word.

Her journalistic career flourished when she joined the Boston Globe staff while pursuing her studies at Northeastern University. Following her Boston Globe experience, she moved to Maine to work as both reporter and columnist for the York County Coast Star before making the transition to law school.

Today, Buchanan balances dual careers as an attorney by day and mystery writer by night. She calls the Portland, Maine area home, where she lives with her spouse, Diane.
