Bill Konigsberg is an acclaimed American novelist whose works include Openly Straight, Honestly Ben, and The Music of What Happens. Before transitioning to fiction writing, Konigsberg established himself as a sports journalist, earning a GLAAD Media Award in 2002 for his ESPN column "Sports World Still a Struggle for Gays."

His career took him to the Associated Press in New York, where he served as both sports writer and editor. However, growing restless in journalism, Konigsberg turned his attention to novel writing. His debut work, originally titled Audible but published as Out of the Pocket, earned him the Lambda Literary Award in 2009.

Konigsberg continued building his literary reputation with Openly Straight, which captured the Sid Fleischman Award for Humor. His third novel, The Porcupine of Truth, brought him additional recognition, winning both the Stonewall Book Award and the PEN Center USA Literary Award. Through his compelling storytelling, Konigsberg has become a distinctive voice in contemporary young adult literature.
