Belva Plain (1915-2010) was a celebrated American novelist known for her compelling women's fiction, including the acclaimed Werner Family Saga. Her books fearlessly explored complex social issues such as divorce, adoption, child molestation, and switched-at-birth scenarios that resonated deeply with readers worldwide.

Plain's literary success was remarkable by any measure. By the time of her passing, more than 30 million copies of her books had been sold across over 20 languages. An astounding 21 of her 27 published novels climbed onto the prestigious New York Times Bestseller List.

Her writing journey began early when she sold her first story to Cosmopolitan in 1940, continuing to craft short stories for various magazines until motherhood took precedence.
