Order of Arthur Hailey Books
Arthur Hailey (1920-2004) was a bestselling British-Canadian author renowned for his meticulously researched thriller and suspense novels. What set Hailey apart was his unique approach of centering each story within a specific industry—whether hotels, banking, or aviation. His dedication to authenticity was legendary: he would spend approximately a year conducting thorough research, followed by six months analyzing his findings, before dedicating eighteen months to the actual writing process.
Born in England, Hailey's life was marked by several international moves. He immigrated to Canada in 1947, where he became a citizen, later relocated to California in 1965, and finally settled in the Bahamas in 1969, remaining there until his death.
Hailey launched his writing career in 1956, achieving publication success in 1958 with Runway Zero-Eight (also published as Flight into Danger), a collaborative effort with John Castle. He followed this with his debut solo work, The Final Diagnosis, in 1959. His prolific career spanned nearly four decades, concluding with Detective in 1997.
One of his most celebrated works, Hotel, exemplifies Hailey's masterful storytelling. Set in an opulent hotel over five transformative days, the novel weaves together the lives of strangers whose hidden secrets and deepest desires lead them toward unexpected intimacies and mounting tensions.
