Her television credits include acclaimed series like Lou Grant, Cagney & Lacey, and Chicago Hope, and she has skillfully adapted works by renowned authors including Stephen King and Anna Quindlen for the small screen. Smith launched her novel-writing career in 1977 with James at Fifteen, marking the beginning of her successful transition from screenwriting to book publishing.
