Born in Greece before his family moved to Chicago during his childhood, Surmelis grew up in the Windy City and studied at Columbia College. His diverse entertainment background includes both stage and screen acting, with notable television appearances on popular shows like Angel and General Hospital.

Surmelis gained widespread recognition in the design world through his work on several hit television programs. Viewers came to know him as a designer on TLC's Clean Sweep, Lifetime Network's Merge, and the Style Network's My Celebrity Home. He further expanded his television presence as both host and designer on HGTV's 24 Hour Design and later launched his own show, Rate My Space with Angelo Surmelis.

Leveraging his television success and design expertise, Surmelis established his own furniture brand, angelo:HOME, which specializes in upholstered furniture available through multiple retail outlets.
