Following her 1991 high school graduation, she moved with her family to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she pursued higher education at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, earning a communications degree.

During her final year of college, Amy met Joe, who would become her husband—a meeting that occurred just days after her father suffered a major stroke. Their connection was immediate and strong, leading to marriage four years later. Amy's literary aspirations became reality in 2007 when she successfully sold her debut manuscript, an achievement that filled her with excitement and joy. The following year, 2006, brought another significant change as Amy relocated to North Carolina with her husband, children, and parents.

Amy's publishing career officially launched in 2009 with the release of her first novel, A Gift of Grace, followed by Betrayed in the same year, marking the beginning of her successful journey as a published author.
