Order of Alice McDermott Books

Alice McDermott stands as one of America's distinguished contemporary novelists, currently serving as Professor of the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University. Her literary achievements include numerous acclaimed novels, most notably *Charming Billy*, which earned her both the prestigious US National Book Award for Fiction and an American Book Award.

A Brooklyn native, McDermott pursued her education at the State University of New York at Oswego, where she completed her undergraduate studies, followed by graduate work at the University of New Hampshire, where she earned her MA. Her academic career took her through teaching positions at UCSD and American University before she found her permanent home at Johns Hopkins. McDermott balances her writing and teaching with family life, living outside Washington, DC with her neuroscientist husband and their three children.
