Alex Michaelides brings a unique blend of literary education and Hollywood experience to his writing. After earning his degree in English literature from Cambridge University, he pursued an MA in screenwriting at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. His screenwriting credits include The Devil You Know, featuring Rosamund Pike, and The Brits are Coming, which boasted an ensemble cast including Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Parker Posey, and Sofia Vergara.

Born to a Greek father and English mother, Michaelides channeled his growing disillusionment with the film industry into novel writing. When crafting his debut work, The Silent Patient, he aimed to create the kind of book he personally craved as a reader—one worthy of sharing shelf space with Agatha Christie's masterpieces. This pivot from screenwriting frustration to literary ambition resulted in his breakthrough as a novelist.
