Ann Carol Crispin (1950-2013) was an accomplished American science fiction novelist who captivated readers with her compelling storytelling across multiple beloved universes. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland (1972), she launched her writing career in 1983 and quickly established herself as a master of her craft.

Crispin became renowned for her work on the Starbridge series and her exceptional movie tie-in novels spanning iconic franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. Her talent for developing rich character histories earned her the affectionate title "Queen of the Backstory" among fans and peers alike. This skill for breathing life into existing characters from various media made her stories particularly cherished by devoted franchise followers.

Her literary achievements include New York Times bestseller status and the prestigious honor of being named a Grandmaster by the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers in 2013. Throughout her career, she frequently collaborated with fellow authors, bringing diverse perspectives to her collaborative works.

Crispin's publishing journey began in 1983 with Yesterday's Son, a Star Trek: The Original Series novel. Her extensive bibliography includes numerous collaborative works: the Witch World: High Halleck Cycle series with Andre Norton, Silent Dances and Silent Songs with Kathleen O'Malley, Shadow World with Jannean Elliott, Serpent's Gift with Deborah A. Marshall, Ancestor's World with T. Jackson King, Voices of Chaos with Ru Emerson, East Coast Crisis with Howard Weinstein, Death Tide with Deborah A. Marshall, and Sand and Stars with Diane Duane. She also co-wrote Alien: Resurrection with Kathleen O'Malley.

Among her notable works, Silent Dances (co-authored with Kathleen O'Malley) launches the StarBridge series, following Tesa, a deaf ambassador perfectly suited to communicate with the sonic-sensitive Grus species, who must navigate interplanetary politics to protect her adopted world. Storms of Destiny, part of the Exiles of Boq'urain series, tells the story of priestess Thia, who discovers dark truths about her deity and joins unlikely allies to save a war-torn realm after her exile.
